If you are suffering severe injuries because of another driver's negligence, and you are being flooded by insurance companies, lawyers and police at the hospital don't talk to anyone. You want to take the time to find your own civil trial lawyer you can trust if your accident and lawsuit goes to trial.
People are going to want you to say certain things, or agree to different terms while you are hurt and trying to recover. There are a few things that you want to do while you're waiting for your consultation with your civil lawyer, so you don't jeopardize your case.
Don't Talk with Insurance Companies
The insurance company of the other driver is going to try to talk you into thinking the accident could have been your fault, or they may try to get you to agree to a deal. They are going to record the phone call so they can use it in court, and they may want you to sign documents. Don't even take a phone call or see a representative without any representation.
Don't Make a Police Statement
The police may want you to make a statement about what happened in the accident. Your memory may not be 100 percent, the officers may get you to admit to something that could jeopardize your case, and they can misuse your words. Let the hospital staff and your loved ones know that you will not speak to the police or make a statement until you have representation by your side.
Secure Your Vehicle
You want to make sure your vehicle doesn't get tampered with. Find out exactly where it was taken after the accident, and let your lawyer know. Your lawyer may want to take pictures of the vehicle, have it examined by a mechanic, and they may want the black data box recorder out of it. If the recorder shoes you were following the rules of the road at the time of the accident, this could be the imperative evidence you need.
There are a lot of things going on when you are in an auto accident, and then hospitalized with serious injuries. Let the hospital know not to let people know what room you are in, or that you are there. Consult with a civil trial lawyer or two if you want to have options, and then move forward with your case against the person that harmed you.
Have you recently been let go from your job? Do you feel that the termination was illegal in any way? It is time for you to stand up to unfair employment practices by your former employer. An employment attorney helped me get through an impossible time more easily. I had no idea how serious the repercussions for terminating my position could be for the company, nor did I know how much the company would owe me for doing so. Thankfully, the attorney took the time to answer each and every question that I had and discussed all of my options. I have included much of what I learned on my website to help others learn what they could be owed if they were unlawfully terminated from their jobs.
