3 Ways To Find The Best Criminal Defense Attorney For Your Case

Arthur Young

If you need to hire a criminal defense attorney, you want to find the best one you can. You need to have someone who is on your side and who is going to fight for you. You need to have someone who will either get you off if you go to trial or who will get you the best deal possible. When you are looking for an attorney, then you may need to have some help trying to figure out what attorney will work best for you.

Check Specializations

Attorneys can specialize in specific kinds of criminal law. You should check to see if the attorney you are interested in specializes in anything. For example, if you have been charged with DUI, then you may want to find an attorney who specializes in DUI cases because they are going to be more familiar with all the laws pertaining to traffic and OUI. It's the same for things like domestic violence, robbery, or violent crimes.

Check Record

You should also check into the attorney's record. You want to know what their ratio of wins to losses is. You also want to find out approximately how many cases they have handled. A 2:1 win-to-loss ratio may sound good, but if the attorney has only had 10 cases, that record doesn't sound as good. However, if the attorney has dealt with hundreds of cases, that ratio sounds much better.

Check for Complaints

Even the best attorney will have people who aren't happy with them at the end of the case and who may file a complaint with the bar association in your state. One or two complaints against an attorney with a lot of experience aren't necessarily a red flag. Get as much information about the complaint as possible. You can generally contact the bar association in your state, and they can give you the information about the complaints you are looking for. You can also check the Better Business Bureau in your area. There are also websites that people can use to rate attorneys, so look for some of those sites as well.

If you have been arrested and charged with a crime, you need an attorney to help you with your case. It is important to hire an attorney who will do their best for you and help you get off at trial or get a good deal.

About Me
unlawful employment termination - what's your next step?

Have you recently been let go from your job? Do you feel that the termination was illegal in any way? It is time for you to stand up to unfair employment practices by your former employer. An employment attorney helped me get through an impossible time more easily. I had no idea how serious the repercussions for terminating my position could be for the company, nor did I know how much the company would owe me for doing so. Thankfully, the attorney took the time to answer each and every question that I had and discussed all of my options. I have included much of what I learned on my website to help others learn what they could be owed if they were unlawfully terminated from their jobs.
